What stage of development is RMS’s diabetes therapy at?
RMS’s iPSC-derived Islet-Like Cluster (ILC) cellular therapeutic is currently in preclinical development. The therapy candidates are being evaluated in laboratory studies and animal models, assessing both efficacy (the ability to restore insulin production and regulate blood glucose) and safety, prior to human administration.
RMS is actively working toward the submission of an Investigational New Drug (IND) application, which is the regulatory step required before a therapy can enter human clinical trials in the United States. A successful IND submission would allow RMS to proceed to a Phase I clinical trial to assess the safety of the ILC cellular therapeutic in patients with diabetes.
Reaching the IND submission stage represents the translation of over two decades of academic and commercial research into real clinical potential, a significant milestone for a company at RMS’s stage. The therapy is being developed in both autologous (patient-derived) and allogeneic (donor-derived) forms, with both approaches advancing through the preclinical program.
